Red Rivers Ingredient Processing division has achieved a leadership position as a processor of specialty crops used for food ingredients. More than just a food source, we offer a healthy snack alternative. We provide diversified, high-quality products that can be grown both conventional and organically, including:

Wild bird food
Red River Commodities has been a grassroots processor of wild bird food products for more than 30 years. Its two processing plants, located in Fargo, ND and Lubbock, TX, are right in the heartland of grain growing regions. Red River enjoys the advantage of contracting directly with local growers to provide the freshest possible grains at the best possible prices.
Because of their progressive approach to continual product improvement with its wild bird food programs, RRC has won many vendor awards from several key retailers.
Sungold food
SunGold Foods is a roasting, salting, and flavoring production facility for sunflower, soybeans, and other specialty seeds. Red River also provides contract packaging for customers in a peanut- and tree-nut-free environment. Custom-Roasting Options SunGold Foods has the ability to roast products via frying or drying. The frying of the products is completed in NuSun sunflower oil, which is a transfat-free oil with little to no flavor characteristics, so the flavor of the products being roasted shines through.
The dry roasting is accomplished by using dry heat. This method is typically used in the dry roasting of soybeans, inshell pumpkin, peas, and other beans. Retail-Ready Products SunGold Foods offers retail-ready products by using the roasted items and then custom packaging them to customer specifications. SunGold Foods works with the customer to determine the best packaging material, size, and appearance to provide a cost-effective product or a product line while ensuring a stable product that maximizes shelf life.
Sunbutter™
During the late ‘90’s and early ’00 many new origins introduced a lower quality sunflower kernel at cheaper prices and quickly became major suppliers to the export markets. At that time Red River Commodities began to research new and consistent outlets for the kernel. In cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Services, Red River Commodities began a two year project to develop a substitute for peanut butter made from sunflower seeds. During this time period Red River Commodities invested in new hybrids, specialized production areas, created SunGold Foods, Inc. and created a peanut and tree nut free environment at both companies. Today, SunButter is found in grocery chains, health food stores, school lunch programs and is being used as an ingredient in baking and snack foods. Several schools have decided to be peanut and tree nut free replacing peanut butter with SunButter. SunButter is now the largest customer of Red River Commodities for sunflower kernel.
